There is a difference between being busy and being productive. One fills your day. The other builds your life.
Busy has become a status symbol. People wear it like a badge. Ask someone how they are doing and the answer is almost always some version of busy. As if the fullness of a calendar is proof of a life well lived.
But busy and productive are not the same thing and most people know this somewhere underneath all the noise. You can be in motion all day and make no meaningful progress. You can answer every email, attend every meeting, check every box, and end the day exhausted without having moved an inch toward anything that actually matters to you.
Productivity is not about doing more. It is about doing what matters most with the best of your energy. It is about having enough clarity about what you are building that you can look at your calendar and know whether what is in it is moving you forward or just keeping you occupied.
The most successful people I have worked with are not the busiest ones. They are the most intentional ones. They protect their time like they protect their money. Because they understand that time is the one resource you cannot earn back.
What is on your schedule this week that is building your life? And what is just keeping you busy?
